    ● What’s important about a load of old stones?
    ● What came after the Stone Age?

Through talk, looking at artefacts and maps and by visiting Carymoor, children will develop skills as historians and geographers.

    Phonics

Some children in our class follow the Read Write Inc. phonics programme. Children are assessed regularly and work in groups that closely match the sounds that they need to learn.

Families can support children at home by reading the books that are sent home multiple times across the week so that the children become fluent story-tellers. Children will also have a QR code for the current book that they are reading, which will be given to them on a Friday.

    English

Those children who have completed the RWI programme will be doing daily handwriting, first ensuring that letter formation is accurate and then beginning to join when children are ready. This term’s reading lessons are based on the book ‘Ug’ by Raymond Briggs. These lessons will develop children’s retrieval skills and help them to understand new vocabulary.

All children’s writing lessons will be based upon Winter’s Child. These lessons will explore literary techniques as well as grammar, and will provide opportunities to create fiction and non-fiction pieces of work. The class will be reading The Land of Roar as our class text.

    Maths

Across the term, the children will develop themselves as mathematicians. We will work on addition and subtraction as well as geometry. The children will have daily mastering number lessons. Families can support at home by encouraging children to complete short sessions on either Numbots or TTRockstars.

    R.E

In R.E., we are exploring how, why, and to whom people from different religious traditions express gratitude. Students will learn about a range of practices and beliefs across faiths, gaining an understanding of the different ways individuals show thanks through prayer, rituals, festivals, and daily actions. This unit encourages pupils to appreciate diversity and reflect on the importance of gratitude in their own lives.

This term we will also learn about the nativity story and why God is important to Christians.

    PSHE

This term’s unit focus is on health and wellbeing. Students will learn about making healthy dietary choices and the habits that contribute to maintaining good health. They will also explore aspects of emotional wellbeing, including recognising their strengths, developing resilience, and communicating their feelings effectively.

    PE

Our P.E. days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
This term, we will focus on developing core strength through yoga and skills for invasion games that include footwork, dodging, throwing and catching.

    Science

This term, we will be studying animals, including humans, focusing on the nutrition they need and how skeletons and muscles provide support, protection, and enable movement.

    DT

This term, we will be planning, designing, and creating a moving monster. Students will explore different mechanisms to make their monsters move, develop their design ideas, and build their models, enhancing their creativity, problem-solving, and practical skills.

    Music

This term we have Somerset music teaching us Ukulele, ready to show parents near the end of term. We will also be preparing for our Christmas show by rehearsing a variety of festive songs.

    Computing

This term, we will be learning keyboard skills and creating a Christmas-themed newspaper article.

    Home Learning

For home learning, children should be doing the following every week:

    • Reading as often as possible – ideally 5 times a week. Please make a note of which book and which pages your child has read (older children can do this themselves)
    • Practising times tables on TT Rockstars (go into Garage to practise at the right level)
    • Spelling Shed - Complete spelling games and complete the assignment (specific words) set by Miss Smith

Children have logins for the websites above in their reading records. Please let Mrs Partington know if the children need another copy of their log-in details.
